Managing Performance
Addressing performance issues with an employee can be uncomfortable and even stressful for some managers at the best of times. This can particularly be the case when the employee is experiencing emotional distress. Yet, it is especially at these times where the skills taught in these episodes can make a difference in the outcomes for the employee, the manager, and the organization. One important concept of this episode is that helping an employee who may be experiencing depression, anxiety, stress or burnout, stay productive at work can actually help them to maintain their sense of value and competence. If done correctly, supporting an employee to remain a contributing member of the team is often a better, healthier approach than simply taking away tasks. Feeling valued goes a long way in maintaining and protecting mental health at work.
